Who We Are

The Grosse Pointe Sunrise Rotary Club was formed in 1991 and serves the Grosse Pointe community and beyond. Grosse Pointe Sunrise Rotary is part of Rotary International. Through its 501 (c) (3) foundation, the club supports many international projects, along with working hard to be effective locally. The Club meets every Tuesday at 7:00a.m. for its regularly scheduled meetings and in May 2022, our home became Ford House, a National Historic Landmark and the former estate of Edsel and Eleanor Ford and their family in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan.

WHAT WE DO

The Grosse Pointe Sunrise Rotary Club (Grosse Pointe, Michigan)is a local chapter of the global Rotary International network, devoted to the motto “Service Above Self.” We meet every Tuesday morning and focus on mobilizing local business and professional leaders to engage in meaningful community service, foster goodwill, and support broader humanitarian efforts.

One of our signature efforts is the annual “Grosse Pointe Run,” which features a 5 K and 10 K run, a competitive 5 K walk, a 5 K wheelchair event, a leisure 5 K walk, and a one-mile fun run.   This event serves as our largest fundraiser, with proceeds going toward scholarships and charitable work both locally in the Grosse Pointe communities and globally.

In addition to fundraising, the club engages in project-based community service addressing local needs. For example, the club purchased and installed a medicine-safe disposal kiosk in the lobby of the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department to allow 24/7 safe disposal of unused medications, thereby reducing the risk of misuse, overdose, and environmental contamination. This kind of work illustrates how the club targets both health and environmental priorities in our own backyard.

Another major pillar of the club’s work is education and youth support. Through their 501(c)(3) foundation, the club awards college scholarships to students in Grosse Pointe and surrounding communities, as well as funds youth and trades development programs, and supports local nonprofits focused on children, education, and families. This multifaceted approach - merging fundraising, local service projects, and scholarships - shows how a local civic club can make a tangible difference in a community while also contributing to global Rotary goals
